The Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care by C. J. Puotinen. This is a compilation of
natural treatments for common ailments, emergency first aid strategies, nutritional and
dietary information, herbs and homeopathic remedies for pets, plus interviews and
information from holistic healers. It has been revised, with lots of new information included.

Herbal Handbook for the Barn and Stable, Rodale Press, 1976 and
The Complete Herbal Book for the Dog, Arco Publishing 1977 by Juliette de Baracli Levy.  Juliette raised champion Afghan Hounds using natural methods, and shares a wealth of herbal and nutritional information.

Blessing the Bridge by Rita M. Reynolds, New Sage Press, 2001. A wonderful collection of stories about the care of many different creatures, with lots of help on the subject of aiding the aged ones.

The Man Who Talks to Dogs by Melinda Roth, St Martins Press, 2002. The story of Randy Grimm and the creation of Stray Rescue. Reading this book helped inspire this page. It also gave me insights into, and greater appreciation of our own "rescue dog", and increased our gratitude to and respect for Alyssa, her foster-mom.

The Dog Whisper by Paul Owens. Probably one of the first books about "non-violent training techniques", published in the 1970's. I borrowed a copy through the local library and it really helped me learn to work with Chloe, our former stray companion.

Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats by Richard H. Pitcairn D.V.M. and Susan Hubble Pitcairn, Rodale Books, 1982 (may be a revised edition out there, but the old one is good too). This book is full of great recipes for natural diets, plus herbal remedies and emergency care. There are excellent descriptions of symptoms, natural treatments, and homeopathic remedies.
